Hotel Lust

The staff are friendly, and the rooms look clean. For the price, the food in the restaurant and the hotel rooms are perfectly fine. It isn’t a modern tourist hotel, but that doesn’t have to be a deal breaker. Even the mattress wasn’t worn out, unlike at some other hotels I’ve stayed in. Breakfast is basic, with rolls, cold cuts and cheese, eggs, jam, and chocolate spread. It’s a bit different from a typical buffet.

The bathroom is the real problem here. There’s barely 5 centimeters between the toilet seat and the wall, which feels like space-saving taken too far. Even the TV looks smaller than my phone screen when I’m trying to watch from bed. The bathroom door looked forced, and the carpet had burn marks from the days of smoking in bed. After one night, I was ready to leave. There’s a lot to fix.

I’m comfortable in this kind of family-run place, and the friendly, attentive service made the stay pleasant. It’s an older property, but it’s clean and has style. Höchst im Odenwald has many foreign residents. That doesn’t bother me at all, I enjoy being around other cultures. Anyone who feels differently can choose somewhere else. This probably isn’t a hotel for people looking for something posh.

The breakfast was adequate, and the place was clean, but the rest was disappointing. We booked a triple room, and the third bed was a fold-out sofa too small for an adult, just about enough for a child. After we complained, they gave us another room. In room 111, part of the lower toilet-door frame was missing, there was paper in the keyhole, and the strike plate was partly loose. The rooms and hallway were very dark, and the furnishings were dated. It looked as though asylum seekers or refugees were staying in the building. We were told to store our bikes in the hotel’s large hall for security reasons. I didn’t see any fire alarms.
