Café Blaich - Hotel Garni

I was working nearby when I noticed the shop open as I was leaving town on Saturday. I’d been hoping to find a good traditional Black Forest cake, and this was it. They were kind and gave me a fresh, lovely one to take home. After some disappointing cake experiences, I was pleasantly surprised: the sponge was light, there were plenty of cherries, the base was crunchy, and everything tasted fresh. The liqueur was just right. I’d have liked it a little sweeter, but that’s just my taste and didn’t change my opinion. The price was fair, too. I also bought some pralines, which were fresh and delicious, and my mother loved the honey I brought her.

The café has an old-fashioned feel, and the interior looks quite dated, but the cakes and drinks really deliver. The portions are huge and everything was tasty. Lots of locals come by, often leaving with boxes of cake.

Tucked away and not touristy, this is a small, charming café with a buffet and a great cake selection. Service was excellent. For parking, there are spaces on the left, or you can carry on and find more further along on the left.

The street outside was really busy and noisy with cars, which is why I gave it four stars. The coffee was sublime and the cake was amazing.
