Hotel Amadeus ROYAL Berlin

The hotel is a quiet, no-frills place to sleep, and there are at least three grocery stores close by, one with a bakery and coffee counter. That was useful since the cafeteria was closed during my early October 2025 visit, possibly for renovation, and there was no dining onsite. It's at the end of U-Bahn Line U5 in Hönow, in the Hoppegarten suburb. Getting to Berlin's central train station takes about 45 minutes, but the out-of-the-way location also means a sleepy, quiet neighborhood. The rooms are fairly spacious, all on the building's third floor. Wi-Fi worked fine for email and streaming Netflix. I was sick with a bad cold and fever, so that was about all the entertainment I could manage. An electric kettle or coffee machine in the room would've been very welcome. The front-desk staff were trilingual and helpful, perhaps especially accommodating because we shared a mother tongue. They let me use their kettle at reception, and we chatted a little about expat life. The word “Royal” in the name may give travelers the wrong idea if they expect deluxe rooms. Maybe it's meant as an aspiration. A laundry room would also help, since the nearest commercial laundry service is two train stops away. I can recommend it to budget travelers, including students, solo explorers, and active seniors, as long as they're comfortable relying on nearby public and commercial services.

There was no daily cleaning during our stay, the towels weren't changed, and the room had no basic toiletries like soap or shower gel. Dust and poor upkeep were evident, and the bed wasn't made once for the whole stay. Payment and checkout were also frustrating. They refused my card, saying the terminal wasn't working, and made me pay cash. It took a while to get a receipt, with different excuses along the way. When I returned the room key at checkout, the staff were aggressive and unfriendly. The reception staff had also been rude, disrespectful, and unprofessional. It was a very disappointing stay, with no respect for guests and a serious lack of cleanliness and professionalism. I strongly advise other travelers to avoid this place.

The hotel was nice, clean, and relaxing, though the network was a bit bad. I can't speak Ukrainian or Russian, and most of the people there didn't speak English or Dutch, so there were quite a few problems. Still, everything was fine and great.

We couldn't stay in the room and left at 1am because the dust and insects were too much. When we arrived, we found a bug and killed it. Within ten minutes, we noticed the pillow was covered in dust. The room smelled terrible, so I used spray to try to get rid of it. We asked for a vacuum to clean the room, but were refused. The worker then suspected that I had deliberately put dust on the pillow. That was ridiculous.
