Right beneath the dunes, with Hörnum’s long, wide sandy beach close by, the location is hard to beat. There are good restaurants, a great bakery, excellent ice cream, and the North Sea is endlessly fascinating. It made for a perfect break. The apartment is compact but mostly comfortable, with a double bedroom, a sofa bed in the living room, and a pet-friendly setup. The surrounding homes on this private estate are all holiday apartments, which can feel at first like a purpose-built resort for wealthy holidaymakers. Once you get used to that seaside home-from-home feel for rich Bavarians, it’s fine. A couple of small things: I didn’t care for the IKEA bedframe, since sitting up in bed was uncomfortable, and the shower stall felt a bit small for a big guy like me. Still, no real complaints. We’d come back.

The lack of hot water throughout our March stay was a real shame, and it kept this from getting a better rating. Otherwise, the apartment was mostly fine, with good kitchen equipment and furnishings, fairly new bathroom fittings, and mattresses that were comfortable.

The furnishings are new and tastefully done, and the location is excellent. Everyone was very friendly. I’d definitely return!
