We stayed in Apartment 1 at Meerforelle, the ground-floor unit in a house split into two apartments. It sleeps four and has about 65 square metres, including the entrance, kitchen and living room, two bedrooms and bathroom. There are two small parking spots out front, one for each apartment, and a little step at the entrance. The layout isn't wheelchair accessible: that step and the awkwardly placed interior doors make it hard to get around freely. The garden is large for a holiday apartment and belongs exclusively to Apartment 1. There's a terrace with a table, four chairs and a parasol stand, with a glimpse of the lake beyond. A small shed holds things like a grill, loungers and children's games. The garden area itself is further back. The advertised lake is hard to reach, or perhaps inaccessible; there's an unchecked blackberry bush there. The terrace is neglected and weedy, the chairs are in poor shape and need repair or replacement, and the table gets dirty quickly from Apartment 2's balcony above. Its position is awkward too. The homemade shed leans a little and could use repair or replacement. Inside, the spacious kitchen and living area has a ceramic hob and oven, dishwasher, large sofa, and dining table with six chairs. The kitchen also has a fridge and freezer, microwave and extractor hood, but the hood should vent outside. One bedroom has a comfortable double mattress in a 140 x 200 cm bed with an open footboard; the other has two comfortable 80 x 200 cm single beds. Both rooms have wardrobes. The double bed feels far too narrow, and without bedside tables there's nowhere handy to put things. More electrical outlets would help. The bathroom has a small shower, sink and window, and there's a utility room next door for the vacuum and other appliances. The bathroom and shower were very clean, but shelves are needed in the shower and beside the toilet. There wasn't a proper toilet paper dispenser, which seems overdue these days. The windows all have good insect screens. All but one in the kitchen can be darkened with blackout curtains. There are just two smoke detectors, and one doesn't work, so it needs replacing and upgrading. Beside the house, everything from the holiday seems to go into one rubbish bin, with no sign of recycling. From outside, the house didn't look very inviting: the wood is weathered and the facade noticeably dirty. Inside, the beautiful wooden ceiling was covered in cobwebs. This is only our impression at this point in time, and we sincerely hope the issues mentioned will be dealt with. Maybe the owner could live here for a while to spot the smaller problems that could be fixed straight away. Everyone should make up their own mind.
