Landgasthof Kelzenberg

It was okay.

The air conditioning, underfloor heating and electric blinds were the only reasons I gave it an extra star. Otherwise, the stay was disappointing. At night I could hear my neighbour snoring and talking on the phone for hours, and it seemed the recent renovation hadn't included any soundproofing. The main road is right beside the hotel. It's a 30 km/h zone, but cars still speed through. My room looked clean at first, then seemed dingy on closer inspection and smelled strongly of smoke. The bathroom tiles were sticky, the mirror dusty and the fittings marked with water stains. The towels were stiff and rough, and smelled musty, like a wet dog. There wasn't even a glass or a bottle of water in the room. Breakfast was only served until 8 a.m., which is unbelievable. I had trouble finding the breakfast room until another guest showed me where it was. At the entrance, I tripped and fell: there's a door and then a completely hidden step, with no warning sign. That's very dangerous. After that, I didn't enjoy the coffee, and the buffet was laughable: three kinds of cheese, two kinds of cold cuts and just one kind of roll, a wheat roll. No fruit or vegetables. When I arrived, a rather moody man greeted me but didn't explain anything about the building.

We've been back several times and have booked the bowling alley and celebrated a birthday there. The food is delicious and the service is good. Highly recommended.

It's a quiet spot, and the rooms were clean. Check-in is only possible from 3 pm by prior arrangement. Our deluxe double room was a little bigger, though simply furnished. We didn't have breakfast because we'd been invited elsewhere, so I can't comment on the food. The restaurant was busy in the evening.
