The room itself was good, which makes the rest all the more frustrating. Every morning before 9, someone knocked on my door. The rooms weren’t properly cleaned, and there was no soap in them. At breakfast, the hostess complained about her cleaning lady and said the coffee creamer was bad, asking whether we still wanted it. Breakfast itself was uninspired. As a solo guest, I was seated with other solo travelers, sometimes at one table, sometimes another, even when all the other tables were empty and nobody else had come for breakfast. It felt like they were trying to save on cleaning. Worst of all, one morning my room key was brusquely taken from the table because my curtain was caught in the window, and I was then lectured in front of the other guests. It’s a shame things had to be like this. Under those circumstances, they might as well not offer breakfast at all; you can find a much more relaxing holiday elsewhere.

It’s fine if you’re not looking for luxury. Clean and friendly, and... okay.

I was completely satisfied with my stay. The owner was very nice, the staff were friendly, and my room was simple, quiet, clean, and full of sunshine on the peaceful, car-free dream island of Juist. Breakfast was generous and tasty, and the value for money is unbeatable. Every other guesthouse costs at least €10-30 more per person per night. If you’re after modern luxury, oysters, and champagne room service, I think you should book a five-star hotel and pay the matching price. What more could you want?

We were never told before arriving that the €240.00 bill couldn't be paid by card. I find that absolutely outrageous. At that price, you can find much better, more modern apartments or rooms on Juist. No thanks, I won't be back.
