Bentorfer Krug

The outside looks like the hotel may no longer be open, and it’s not inviting. Inside, everything felt dark, musty, and run-down. There were dead moths in the corners, and the bathroom was filthy, with carpet on the floor. The individually wrapped wipes didn’t make up for any of it. The photos on Check24 are nothing like what we found. Unfortunately, I can’t recommend this hotel.

The shower was an adventure, swinging between cold and hot like Russian roulette with water. What a way to start the morning! The mattress bounced like the trampoline I remember from my youth, and the TV looked like a relic from the earliest days of color broadcasting. The room had plenty of old-fashioned character. The breakfast was just three rolls, an egg, and some jam, but presented with such creativity that Jamie Oliver might weep with joy. Inside the Bentorfer Krug, the wallpaper, carpets, and dim, mysterious lighting made me feel like I’d traveled back in time. The staff were very friendly, or at least around if you called “Hello?” loudly enough. I liked that distant-cousin, family kind of atmosphere. This isn’t for anyone expecting five-star luxury. But if you want a once-in-a-lifetime stay you’ll remember with a smile, even on your deathbed, this is the place. I’ll be back. Maybe. Probably. Definitely. Sometime. An underrated gem of German hospitality!

We drove off as soon as we saw the place. It looked badly neglected, with weeds along the sidewalks and a faded price list in the display case, and seemed frozen in the 70s or 80s. This was the only hotel available and had been recommended to us, but the exterior was enough to put us off.

We’ll be happy to stay here again during the next trade fair. It’s centrally located, the people are friendly, and the rooms are clean. It’s not the most up-to-date place, but for the price it’s really good. We’ve had worse experiences at other hotels.
