Great food, and the service was fantastic 😀

The restaurant feels stuck in a version of itself from 25 years ago. The decor is dated and covered with old guest photos, and I didn’t like the atmosphere. The food was only so-so, the salad was really bad, and the breaded plaice fillet looked and tasted like frozen food. Prices are cheap, which unfortunately shows in the quality. At lunchtime after the trade fair, the place was packed, the air inside was unbearable, and our table for five would have been cramped even for four. We had to put all the side dishes straight onto our plates so they could take them away, just to have room to eat. We won’t be coming back. 👎🏻

Breakfast had everything we needed, and we were even given packed lunches for the next stretch of our hike. Our rooms were very clean and quiet, and dinner was delicious with friendly, attentive service. When we arrived after hiking, they welcomed us warmly and immediately reserved a table at the restaurant. Highly recommended. We’ll definitely stay here again on our next Rheinsteig trip.

I spent a week in the area and ate at Gartenhotel three times. The food was delicious every time, and the service was friendly and attentive. The decor is a little old-fashioned, but that’s part of the house’s charm.
