This is easily the most depressing “resort” I’ve ever visited. Everything looks cheap and out of place, and there’s no sense of nature in the design at all. I can’t understand how a consortium ever signed off on it. 10/10 NPC holidays.

The kids had a blast in the pool and activity room, with its pool table that also works as a table tennis table, football game, darts and TV with PS4. But the house itself fell well short of what I’d call luxury. The leather sofas were hard, the lights were from IKEA, and the wood paneling and plastic laminate floors felt basic. The pool room and bathrooms had cheap, basic tiles too. In August 2018, the area was still very much a building site. Diggers and trucks started up just 20 or 30 metres from the house at 7am, so there was no chance of sleeping in. The bedroom blinds barely darkened the rooms once the sun came up, either. The house sleeps 16, with six very small bedrooms, each holding two single beds. They’re split between two wings at the front, each with three bedrooms and a tiny toilet and shower room. There’s another toilet and shower beside the pool and sauna. Four more single beds are up in a “loft” over one wing, reached by a nearly vertical ladder from the activity room. There’s only about a metre of headroom at the ridge and less across most of it. Those beds are really only suitable for kids, and I find it hard to believe they meet building or fire regulations. The WiFi was very poor, around 2Mb up and down, and the internet kept dropping out completely. Trying to watch YouTube was frustrating. The beach is about a kilometre away, I’d guess, along a long walk through the building site. Maybe the area will be nice in two or three years, once construction is finished and there are hopefully some shops and restaurants. Until then, I wouldn’t recommend staying here. And to the person who thinks these houses are worth 4,750,000 DKK, about €640,000, I can only say I want some of whatever drugs you’re on!
Port Olpenitz, also known as the ostzee resort Olpenitz, is a holiday park project on the site of the former naval base in Olpenitz. The original plan called for 7000 beds and 2500 moorings. After the operator went bankrupt, Helma took over the project. det
It’s lovely here, but it’s a pity they’re planning to build so many houses. This beautiful spot between schlei and ostsee will end up with too many people.
I’ve come here several times to work remotely. The sea atmosphere is relaxing, there are different beach options, and it’s worked out really well for me.
