Barbarossa Hotel Kelbra

A great spot.

The dinner, cooked by the chef himself, was delicious, and breakfast was generous. The rooms were clean and well kept, and all eight of us motorcyclists felt comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the bartender clearly knows his drinks 😉. This hotel is well worth a visit, and if we're in the area again, we'll come back. The staff were all friendly and helpful, and they found a way to serve drinks through an honesty box despite the restaurant restrictions during Covid. The rooms were neat and clean, with a priceless view across the reservoir and surrounding countryside. It's a great base for exploring the Kyffhäuser Mountains.

I wouldn't recommend this place. My room had lots of big black spiders, and I ended up catching them all in a glass just so I could sleep in peace. Apparently guests are left to deal with that themselves. When I raised the issue, the receptionist brushed off my criticism without any understanding, saying, “Well, it's a hotel by the woods.” A “hotel by the woods”? Give me a break. They should advertise it as a “Forest Hotel with Exotic Guests for Animal Lovers.”
