I needed a hotel at the last minute and found this one on Google Maps. It’s quiet, clean, and quirky, with an old-style charm. I’ll use it again.

The rooms are beautiful, with a great view, and the hostess was friendly. Sadly, the restaurant has closed.
We felt right at home at Wildenburger Hof, even though it seemed like most guests were middle-aged hikers. We had a great two-night family break in June with our two children, and there’s still lots we’d like to discover and hike with older kids in Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park. The hotel also makes a handy base for hikes and activities nearby, including Wildenburg Castle, the game reserve, the Erbeskopf summer toboggan run, the Steinkaulenberg gemstone mine, the Weiherschleife (Weiher Loop), the Water Knowledge Center at the Steinbach Dam and its water playground, and medieval Herrstein with its trail and stuffed dumplings at the tithe barn. There’s also spit roast in Göttschied by the airfield and Die Gartenwirtschaft, a beer garden near Kempfeld with ride-on cars for little ones and a big sandpit with a bouncy cushion. Our large double room on the second floor had a kitchen. The beds were comfortable and not too soft, and the view over the Hunsrück hills from the big balcony was fabulous. Breakfast was plentiful and good, with wild boar ham and sausage from the farm’s own hunting grounds. The hostess was very friendly.
The manager was friendly and flexible, and breakfast was good despite the limited choice. My room was clean and the bed was comfortable, but the rooms and bathroom are very dated. The bathroom wasn’t dirty, just very old-fashioned.
It’s a bit off the Saar-Hunsrück Trail, but we stayed here while hiking it in summer and liked the rustic charm. The balcony and its wonderful view more than made up for the location. It’s a lovely spot to sit outside and watch the sunsets. Breakfast was decent, and rolls to take along cost €1.50 each, a fair price though they aren’t free. I’d recommend it to hikers.
