B&B Hotel Kempten

After Oktoberfest, we were exhausted and fell asleep on the train, missed our stop, and then missed the last train back to our city. We had no choice but to stay in town. It was 2 a.m., so finding this hotel was lucky. I’d never used a self-check-in hotel before and was surprised how smoothly it all went. The room was very clean and smelled fresh.

We stopped here on the drive from Belgium to Lake Garda, and it was an ideal place to break the trip before the Fernpass. Good value and easy parking. The check-in computer gets a bit confusing when one booking includes multiple rooms.

The lady at reception simply told me, “We don’t do that here,” when I asked if they could hold my bag for a couple of hours after check-out. I’ve stayed at many hotels around the world, and this was the first time one refused. It felt very strange and inconvenient, especially since most hotels offer this as a basic courtesy. The refusal made leaving much more stressful than it needed to be.

The room was good quality and the hotel’s location is very convenient. The breakfast, though, was far too expensive for the small amount on offer. Really disappointing.
