Hotel Brenner

Hotel Brenner is a small, independent place with an intimate feel. It's no more than five floors, and the lift is tiny, only a little wider than a standard shower stall. Its central spot puts it between Koblenz Hbf and the Altstad. The room was fantastic and really comfortable. The living room had windows that opened, and since the weather was nice, I didn't need the air conditioner. I spent a few relaxing afternoons with the windows open, listening to the occasional birdsong. At night, the radiator kept things pleasantly warm, and the lighting was nice too. The bathroom was very spacious, with lots of room for toiletries. The thick towels were absorbent, and the water pressure and temperature were both excellent. I enjoyed taking a shower there. Breakfast was a German-style continental spread of breads, rolls, cereals, cold cuts, cheeses, yogurt and quark. The dining room felt like a salon, with natural light coming through floor-to-ceiling windows onto a serene garden. I didn't use the TV because the Wi-Fi was stable and fast enough to stream media. I spent four wonderful nights here, and it exceeded all my expectations. I'd happily return if I'm back in Koblenz.

The breakfast was decent, though the coffee tasted watered down and guests couldn't operate the coffee machine themselves. Our room was modern, spacious and very clean. There was a secure garage for bikes overnight, and the hotel is near the train station.

The rooms were spotless and well looked after. The staff were friendly.

For over €100 a night, our room felt too small, with hardly any room for our legs, so the price didn't feel justified. The hotel is perhaps a 20-minute walk from the city center, and there isn't an elevator, just squeaky, worn stairs. We stayed one night and came away underwhelmed. Breakfast was an alright selection, and it was lovely to eat in the private garden, but there were lots of fruit flies in the fruit salad and nobody dealt with them.
