AVALON Hotelpark Königshof

The breakfast buffet was better than I expected, and the staff were very friendly. We had a standard double room and were satisfied, especially given the good value for the price. I can recommend the hotel. A few minor things let it down. The room was clean enough, but not especially clean, and some neglected spots could use an occasional wipe. There were also weeds on the terraces and in the garden. Those small jobs seem easy to sort out. June 2024

The staff are really lovely, and there’s a cafe right across from the hotel where you can get coffee, bread, or cake. The building has an ’80s retro feel and is quite nice. There’s apparently a tennis court too, though I didn’t go looking for it. Rooms have a refrigerator, which is handy if you’re travelling with food. The indoor pool is a nice feature for families, but it was so cold at 26° that my child couldn’t swim.

Some rooms are up in the rafters and get very little natural light. The rooms also feel hot and stuffy, and I couldn’t get cold water from the tap. The best I managed was a glass of warm water. This sprawling conference hotel looks like it dates from the 1980s, could use renovation, and felt overpriced. I think it’s worth mentioning that in 2024 the hotel tried to have this review removed, questioning whether we’d stayed there. I had to submit evidence of our visit to keep it up. In 2025, they asked Google to delete it for libel and slander, so again I had to prove I’d stayed and that my account was truthful and fair. My three-star review isn’t a bad review, just an honest account of my stay, and I’ll keep defending my right to post it if it’s challenged again.

Free parking right outside the hotel is useful, and the room was spacious and quiet. The reception is open 24/7, which makes it convenient if you need a flexible late-night check-in while stopping off the motorway.
