The landlady is very nice, though she can be pushy. We were fine there for one night, but I wouldn’t want to spend a whole vacation in the house. It’s small and rather cluttered, and sometimes less really is more. The steep stairs weren’t mentioned when we booked, though they should have been. Anyone with bad knees or other mobility problems could be stuck.

This little house feels like an island for your inner self, far from the noise and sensory overload. It’s a place to recharge and find your balance again, and I’m already looking forward to returning. The natural garden feels like a world for elves and fairies. Inside, the old beams and floorboards make it feel like stepping back into another time, with traces of lives gone by.

Disgusting and awful. Stay away. I suspect the positive reviews are fake. The place is filthy, with a kitchen you can’t use, mold-covered windows, and spiders and other creatures everywhere. The towels are stained, and the living room carpet and sofa smell of urine. The landlady is a constant source of frustration, and the building is freezing cold. Greetsiel is only reachable by car from this dump in Eilsum. The wooden beams are full of woodworm, and I’m afraid the whole structure may no longer be safe.

This was the most run-down, primitive place we’ve stayed in during 15 years of cycling. It could have been quaint, but it looks as though it hasn’t been renovated in 50 years. There was mold and ants, cheap odds and ends in the kitchen and bathroom, and dirty old mats and doormats. The window coverings were fiddly, knick-knacks were everywhere, and it’s impossible to clean properly. Allergy-friendly? Not at all. The price was outrageous even with our Genius discount. The landlady is cashing in on being near Greetsiel, which is its one positive feature. There’s a reason she collects cash on arrival. We would have preferred to find somewhere else on the spot, but we only had 1.5 days to cycle. We were disgusted and glad we’d brought our own bedding. There wasn’t even a double bed, just two singles under the sloping roof. We left after one night instead of staying two.
