The place was lovely and clean. As announced beforehand, there was no one staffing reception or the hotel kitchen during our stay. Still, we got help right away when we called, and the self-catering setup in the kitchen, which we’d discussed earlier, worked well. Everything was perfect :-)

I was there for just one night and didn’t meet any staff, but that wasn’t a problem. The rooms were clean, and the key was waiting in the safe as agreed. I’d book again, though they might want to reconsider the price for what’s offered.

We found booking and communication with Hotel Veltrup easy and friendly. A very nice lady welcomed us and showed us to the rooms, and the whole process felt relaxed and straightforward. Our room was clean and the bed comfortable. The kitchenette had a fridge, microwave, kettle, and other basics. The village of Lear has good butchers and bakeries within walking distance, plus an Edeka supermarket on the outskirts and several restaurants nearby. There are lots of historic houses and old farmsteads. If you have a dog, the former hospital grounds are a lovely green oasis. The hotel also works well for anyone spending several days and hoping to hike in unspoiled nature. The major downside is the traffic noise. The hotel sits right on a very busy main road, and heavy trucks make a lot of noise and fumes as they pull away. I wouldn’t recommend sleeping with the windows open because the exhaust immediately gets into the room. A bypass would solve the problem 😉. It’s a shame, since the value for money is quite good.
