The place was clean and beautiful, but that wasn’t enough to make us want to return. Our room smelled of sewer gas on both nights, and we still talk about this awful anniversary a year later. We’d reserved dinner for my wife and me. My steak arrived mostly gristle, then her fish and potatoes came 15 minutes later. The fish looked terrible and the potatoes were hard as a rock. We sent it back, but after another 10 minutes it came back overheated in the microwave: the fish had disintegrated and the potatoes were mush. I couldn’t finish my steak, and we asked to send it all back and declined the meal. The woman with glasses from the front desk became irate, ran into the kitchen, then came back two minutes later saying she tastes all our food and it was perfect. She refused to credit the food, so we paid well over 100 euros for a horrible anniversary dinner. The staff member, especially the woman with glasses at the front desk, was rude and nasty, like she had a stick up her you know what. We won’t be back or recommend this place.

The pool and spa area were great, with everything we needed and a pleasant temperature even in winter. We really loved our stay. The rooms were spacious and had everything we needed, and the soundproofing was excellent. Parking was spacious too. They provided bathrobes, towels, and bags for the spa and swimming pool. They could also arrange an extra bed for a child, and even a child’s bathrobe for the pool, which was a lovely surprise. The only drawback was the very uncomfortable pillows. Be sure to reserve a table for dinner, as the restaurant may be full. We ended up getting food from outside and eating in the breakfast area with drinks from the bar, and we were glad they let us use the space. If breakfast is included, they book you a table, so let them know ahead of time if you’re traveling with friends and want to sit together. It’s also worth asking about a late checkout, as at least an extra hour can be arranged for free.

I was there for business, and everything was very good. The rooms were big, and breakfast was good too.

For the premium price, I expected service to match, without having to deal with so many problems. My stay didn’t live up to expectations, and I wouldn’t recommend it for a premium hotel experience. The room wouldn’t cool down on hot, sunny days. Even with the AC set to 17 degrees C for 4-5 hours, it felt like it wasn’t on. When we raised it with the staff, they tried to convince us nothing was wrong and said they couldn’t do anything. There was no way to adjust the shower’s water flow at Sonnenhof. It came out full force, making it difficult to shower, and the staff initially wouldn’t acknowledge the problem. The beds had rollers underneath and kept moving, with no way to stop them.
