The surroundings were pleasant, and the staff were helpful. It's fairly close to the lovely town of LEER.

The bed was nice, but there were problems with the room, including a strange stale, dirty smell and rubbish left by previous guests. More seriously, we forgot two expensive cables, one worth 140 euros and the other 20, and called after three hours. They said they couldn't find them, which made me suspect they weren't being honest. The cables had gold ends and clearly didn't look like rubbish, even on a check of the garbage. I'm sure they were stolen, though I don't know whether it was the cleaner or someone else. There was nothing on the TV either. I believe karma will sort it out. If you stay there, double-check your stuff or you may never see it again.

We booked three double rooms in spring, but can't recommend this hotel. All three had serious issues and smelled strongly of old furniture and stale smoke. Two were in a separate building, so we had to walk around outside to reach them. Among the problems were a dirty toilet, broken towel rack, beard hairs in the sink, damaged flooring, peeling ceiling wallpaper, and cobwebs. We raised this with reception and got a €10 discount for two rooms. It felt more like very basic lodging for tradespeople.

We had a great time, especially at dinner. The restaurant was full, so on a recommendation we went to the cozy pub next door instead. The service was great, the food was top-notch, and we had a lively evening with good draft beer, cocktails, and some lovely people. The owner and waitresses were wonderful. Breakfast the next morning was plentiful and just what we needed after a hangover. The next day we took a relaxed walk to the pedestrian area, under ten minutes away, and along the harbor. Our room had a sunny roof terrace, though it had ankle-deep water on it. With all the rain the week before, I suppose that can happen, but I did worry it might leak into the breakfast room or restaurant below. The shower tray was slippery and the entrance quite narrow for the two of us, who are a bit chubby. Still, the bed was freshly made and very comfortable, the bathroom did its job, and there were lots of clean white towels, plus shampoo and shower gel. The rooms are very dated, but super clean. We spent two nights there and were really pleased.
