MEININGER Hotel Leipzig Hauptbahnhof

Having a kitchen is something I really love about these hotels. They work especially well for families with kids, with free baby cots and a play area. They also gave our children a book and pencils. A great way to stay when visiting a city.

Just two minutes from the central train station, with a good price and a nice standard of design, service, and cleanliness. It’s basic, but neat and pleasant, and the staff are really friendly and polite. For what it costs, I enjoyed it and couldn’t have asked for much more. There was one knob I couldn’t figure out. It spun and seemed to control either the temperature or the airflow, I’m not sure. It was pretty hot when I visited, so I think it might have been useful.

The family room was a great price, especially since the kids had free breakfast and bunk beds. Reception were really helpful and accommodating with our family. Breakfast was very good, and they even have a fresh pancake machine. With the windows shut, the room was extremely quiet. The mattresses could be better, but they were fine for a short stay. There’s a shared kitchen with a fridge, washing machine, and what you need for a longer visit. They also offer complimentary water at reception and have a small kids’ play corner there. The train station is a two-minute walk, the city center is five minutes away, and there’s a direct bus to Leipzig Fair. A supermarket is two minutes away, with good restaurants nearby, and underground parking is available. We had a great stay and highly recommend it.

The staff were very kind and helpful, the location is excellent, and there’s a secure area for bicycles. The coffee was good too. Summer heat was the main problem. The rooms get quite hot, and the supplied fan is supposed to have AC, but it didn’t seem to work and was just noisy. The ventilation didn’t help either. Opening the windows was the only thing that helped, but you have to ask staff to open them fully. Be sure to request a room facing the backyard, since the main road can be very loud at night. I’m not sure I’d book again unless I knew the temperature issue had been fixed. Even staff said other guests complain about it.
