Wombat´s City Hostel Leipzig

My room on the 3rd floor was really quiet, and the modern kitchen was very clean. The location is good too. One unpleasant surprise was having to pay to leave my luggage after checkout. The hostel seemed pretty empty, but the women only dormitory we stayed in was nearly full. Maybe they could open more women only dormitories?

Saskia treated me with real professionalism and empathy, and I'm grateful for how kindly she handled my situation. The staff were friendly and respectful, and spoke English and German. The price is a steal, and the kitchen and location are excellent. All in all, very good service, 10/10, I'd recommend this place. A couple of things disappointed me: the locker in my room had no lock, so I had to use one from another bunk, and the door inside my room was missing. Maybe it was being maintained or something. I also appreciated the staff speaking up for other customers when a roommate washed clothes in the bathroom and made the whole place stink. I can't complain about a few missing things.

The location was perfect, and I could see the market platz from my room. It was quiet at night, and the full kitchen was amazing. I stayed in a 6 person female room, with clean, comfortable beds. The bathroom was attached but far enough from the beds that it didn't feel awkward. It's the best hostel bathroom I've seen: very clean, a great shower, room for toiletries, lots of towel hooks, and even a stool for putting clothes on while showering. I had breakfast there 3 times. It was good, especially if you come early while everything is fresh and it's not too busy. I arrived about 30 mins early and the friendly staff checked me in quickly and easily. A power plug at each bed would be handy. There were enough power points for everyone, but they weren't conveniently located. A lamp at each bed would be nice too. The lockers were a great size, but a shelf inside split mine up, so I couldn't fit my bag.

The Leipzig hostel was pleasant, and the rooms were clean. The other guests were considerate, and for the price it seemed like decent value. I’d stayed at the Vienna branch before and enjoyed it more. This one felt smaller and less developed, without things like the bar or pool table they had there. My six-bed dorm had just two other occupants for the first couple of days, but it faced a busy street. Traffic carried on through most of the night. Closing the windows softened it, though the room then became unbearably hot. I wore earplugs every night and still woke up sweaty. Room 206 also had its bathroom in the hallway, which was inconvenient. In the end, it’s a hostel, so you get what you pay for.
