Naturhotel & Bayernhütte am Brauneck

The hosts feel like friends, the food is great, and you can pay to use the sauna. The rooms are spacious, clean, and beautifully made with quality materials. Almost too nice to be a mountain hut, and I mean that kindly.

We had a wonderful stay for my father's 60th birthday at Bayernhutte. The rooms were beautiful and comfortable, the sauna was amazing, and the food was tasty. They even brought out a cake I'd made for him on a nice platter. Most of the stay was great, but the transport situation left a bad feeling and makes me unsure about returning. Getting there and back was the main problem. Before we came, we called three times to ask how long the walk from the top of the gondola took and how steep it was, since my mom has trouble walking. Each time, we were told it was a mostly flat, short 15 minute walk, and that if needed, someone could pick her up by snow scooter. In reality, at a normal pace it took at least 30 minutes. The final section was very steep, down a red slope, and involved crossing a ski slope, which didn't feel safe for my slow walking mom. When we called from the top of the red slope to request the promised pickup, the person on the phone sounded surprised and came reluctantly. The next day, when we asked for a ride back, they said no and told us to call emergency rescue services because they had no time. Eventually they offered to take her only halfway to the gondola, just up the red slope, for 50 euros, which we negotiated down to 30. It really spoiled the mood and made my mom feel awful. If staff promise a ride, they should follow through instead of making the request seem unreasonable, especially when the directions we'd been given were so far off.

Right in the mountains with a great view, this place has friendly service, good food, and affordable prices. Good on you! 🏔️
