The Puricelli Restaurant was a highlight, with refined food and an outstanding choice of Mosel Rieslings. Schloss Lieser is a wonderful base for visiting Bernkastel-Kues and the nearby wine villages, and a remarkable place to start a Mosel trip. Set right by the river and surrounded by vineyards, the views are exceptional. The 19th-century castle, built by the Puricelli family and later home to the Schorlemer-Lieser family, has been beautifully restored as an Autograph Collection hotel while keeping its historic character. Original family portraits, ornate ceilings, and period details give it a real sense of place that modern luxury hotels rarely manage. Our room was spacious and tastefully decorated, balancing historic atmosphere with modern comfort. Staff throughout were warm, professional, and genuinely welcoming. Highly recommended.

The pool and spa were lovely, clean, and beautifully done. Breakfast in the Orangerie had a plentiful buffet and some a la carte options. I had tasty eggs benedict. We got a complimentary upgrade through my Bonvoy status to a fabulous junior suite overlooking both river and vineyard. It had a grand, tasteful feel, with old world charm and modern amenities. Since it was my birthday, there was delicious chocolate cake in the room with a birthday card. Check-in was seamless, and we enjoyed our welcome drink in the beautiful adjacent library. Mark then showed us around the property and explained the hotel, in a way that felt both professional and personal. Before arriving, I’d emailed about wine tastings. They usually have some on site, but there weren’t enough participants to go ahead that day. Mark from the front office gave us lots of local recommendations, and we went to a local wine producer for a great tasting and bought a lot of wine. We’d just finished a phenomenal short weekend stay. Schloss Lieser is stunning, and the building and grounds are meticulously kept. We’ll be back.

My favorite spot was the library room, and dinner was fantastic. The herbal stamp massage was great too. The property is beautiful, and staying in the castle felt unique, though it didn’t quite match the level of other Autograph Collection hotels I’ve visited. The castle has a lot of history, but there isn’t much information about it. There’s a sign explaining the small church inside to the right, and I’d love to see more signs around the castle, perhaps about what each room was used for, along with some old photos. Breakfast was okay. The guacamole toast didn’t look appealing, just sliced red onion and tomato on top of sliced avocado, but the omelet was great. In the sauna area, they should add lemon, mint, cucumber, or something to the tap water. Dirty towels were piled so high I had to toss mine on the floor instead of in the bin. It was an enjoyable stay.

We stayed three nights over Easter, and spring was perfect timing, though it could’ve been a little greener. Schloss Lieser looks amazing, what an attraction. The location is great for nearby villages such as Bernkastel-Kues, which is very nice, and Cochem is also close by car. The suites may be a bit outdated, but if you like antique decor and beds, they’re spot on. We enjoyed breakfast and dinner, as well as the spa, swimming pool, and sauna.

We hadn’t planned to stay, just stop in the next city, but seeing this building made us stop. It’s beautiful, and the walk by the river is highly recommended. In the beautiful winter sun it felt like paradise. There’s ample parking, and the first hour is free, which is enough. We tried to explore the town, but everything was closed because it was December 26.
