Hotel Mäuerle

The check-in code worked perfectly, and the breakfast was plentiful and delicious. We spent one night here to visit the Christmas market, which is only a short walk away. We came by train, and the station is just a 10-minute walk. The rooms were well maintained and comfortably furnished.

We arrived at 18:07, within the stated check-in window of 14:00-21:00, but there were no lights on, nobody at reception and no apparent hotel service. It was nothing like the presentation on Booking. The code sent that day for the key box didn't work. After we called the number provided, the manager arrived looking visibly annoyed and was particularly rude. She handed over the keys without explanation or apology, then left right away. In the room, we found serious hygiene and maintenance problems: a strong cigarette smell in the corridor and room, lots of dust, hairs in the sheets, obvious stains on the sofa, a bathroom in very poor condition, a faulty towel warmer and a nearly empty toilet roll. We reported everything to Booking immediately. Nobody from the hotel came by or called us, and by 20:00 we were left without accommodation. After we left, I messaged the manager to let her know we'd gone and got no reply. The next day she told Booking we hadn't shown up, which was untrue, then changed her account and claimed a "professional cleaning" had been needed because of our stay. Given all this, we don't think this place should be listed on Booking. Fortunately, things were sorted quickly: we were welcomed at Hôtel & Pension Seereich by the lake for the same price. We found a comfortable room, a well-kept setting and especially welcoming staff there, and strongly recommend it.

The hotel is ideally placed for exploring the beautiful island and old town, heading to the harbor or strolling around the small lake past lovely villas. Parking costs extra, either in the garage across from the hotel or in the large lot on the mainland before the bridge to the island. We stayed two nights at Hotel Mäuerle with a voucher and were very happy. Since it was a budget offer, we expected a simpler room; ours was in the basement and had everything we needed, including a minibar. Most of all, it was spotlessly clean. Code check-in was quick and easy, and breakfast was varied and delicious. We'd gladly stay again.

The rooms were clean, modern and spacious enough, and the breakfast buffet was generous and varied. Check-in by code was seamless, though it meant no contact with the owners. I find that a bit of a shame, but some people seem to like it. A lovely little place to stay, and I can't understand the negative reviews. We were very satisfied.
