Hotel Lindenallee

A quiet spot just outside Lindau, with the Insel about a 45-minute walk away. The rooms are small but functional and have all been recently renovated. Staff were friendly and accommodating, and it was very good value for money.

The breakfast was a highlight, with fish, sausages, vegetables, cereal, yogurt, bread, eggs, fruit, juice, coffee, and tea. It was delicious, and the breakfast room had a lovely atmosphere. Afterwards, we spent a nice bit of time on the swing in the backyard. We also had a great boat trip: we took a catamaran for 20 euros and jumped into the lake from it. Nearby, Lindenhofbad is a place to swim, and you can take a boat from Bad Schachen. Our room was clean and simply nice, with everything we needed, including shower gel, lotion, and soap. We had a balcony overlooking greenery and slept comfortably. The hotel is in a quiet, pleasant spot, and the staff are kind and friendly. One small thing, there’s no disposable toothbrush or toothpaste, so bring your own. Free bottled water in the room would have helped too, since we arrived late and couldn’t buy any on the island or in town. Water is only available for purchase at the hotel.

We’ll definitely come back. People around here are friendly and open, and the bike routes are good and easy to use. Lindau island is close, with lots of small, lovely towns to visit, though I’d start with Lindau. There’s also a green park five minutes’ walk away, with big trees and steps down to the Bodensee. In sunny weather it’s refreshing, and much warmer than I expected after visiting Ostsee. We liked the relaxed setup at the hotel. You can sit anywhere inside or in the garden for breakfast, and choose coffee, hot chocolate, or both. There was a generous spread of homemade items, including fruit salad, yogurt mixtures, and bread spreads, along with rolls, croissants, sometimes brezels, cheese, meat, salmon, muesli, boiled and scrambled eggs, and either bacon, white sausages, or leberkäse depending on the day. I didn’t try the tea, orange juice, or marmalade, but I was always well fed. You can also have lunch here, though I didn’t try it. There’s no minibar in the room, but guests can use a large shared fridge. Drinks are self-service: take what you want and add it to your paper card. It’s handled on trust, with no checks. You can bring your own wine to chill there, and borrow glasses, forks, or spoons. We had our things either in the room or out in the garden on a sun lounger. Sometimes you can spot a cat or squirrels. Parking is free; if the front lot is closed, drive around the hotel to find four more spaces at the bottom of the green garden. You can leave a bicycle by the entrance for free, or rent a bike box for a few euros a day to keep it dry and safe if it rains. I doubt anything would happen to it here. The room was well insulated from neighbor noise, apart from keys in the locks or a shower on the other side of the wall. We sat on the balcony each evening, talking and looking at all the visible stars. There were power sockets on both sides of the bed, and the shower temperature was easy to adjust. One tip: there are quite a few mosquitoes, so shut the outer windows before turning on the light in the evening, and keep the room dark while the windows are open. It can feel warm at first but gets cooler overnight. One window open just at the top was enough for a comfortable temperature. The place is beautiful and cozy, and the service is very friendly. A couple of drawbacks: the TV has no HDMI, so there’s no need to bring a Fire TV stick, and the internet is slow, about 5 Mbit down and 0.5 up. That was enough for WhatsApp video calls, messages, Facebook, Instagram, and a stable Wi-Fi connection, though.

The staff were very helpful, and the place was clean. They also had complimentary coffee and ice. There’s no air conditioning or lift.
