The late-night noise was a big problem. A private apartment downstairs has its garden directly under the holiday apartment's bedroom. Barbecues and parties are understandable, but someone played German pop music and talked loudly until 3:30 in the morning, so we couldn't sleep. No one responded to our complaint. On departure morning, a truck was still parked in the lot, making it hard to get our suitcases to the car. Since our arrival was contactless, the landlord could have checked in by text or WhatsApp the next day, or contacted us when we left. Instead, we were left feeling that the guests' well-being didn't really matter to the landlord. The Silbermöwe apartment itself is modern, clean, and in very good condition, and it's just the right size for two people for a few days. The beds are comfortable and the linen is a good size. But the kitchen is very basic, with only two coffee cups, one shabby frying pan, and no oven mitts. Everything in the kitchen is counted and labeled, which felt odd. The hairdryer could use replacing too, as the black ones are disgustingly sticky.

I can only survive on income from this shop, since my €550 EU pension isn't enough to cover business losses. I'm in poor health, with severe rheumatism, a bypass, and advanced narrowing of an artery, and I've lived with an anesthetic for seven years. All of this was known to the landlady. I can't clear out the premises in two weeks, yet yesterday I received a threat of eviction from her lawyer over a disputed amount of more than €5,000. My rent payments could easily cover a lawyer. I rented the shop jointly with a woman well over 70, and we shared the premises. I had explained that my low pension meant I needed to earn extra. We soon saw that tourism was the only way to make a reasonable income. I'd already put a considerable amount of my own money into the shop and taken a generous loan from a wholesaler, so for me, continuing was the only option. The other woman left the lease after five months and only sold secondhand goods, junk. I can't work full-time, and the landlady knew that. For at least eight months, it was inevitable that paying rent on time would be difficult. Even so, for important reasons, I wanted to keep struggling through another year. The landlady gave me written notice on December 30, 2017, saying the business premises had to be vacated by January 15, 2018, because of late rent and alleged arrears. I've been charged rent every month for 50 square meters, though the entire premises, including the toilet and kitchen, are only 44 square meters. Over three years, I've overpaid for six square meters that don't exist, so I don't owe rent. I'm also paying for the partitioned area for this woman's children's room. I later learned she was self-employed too, owned an ice cream shop, and had to give it up for reasons I don't know. She wanted to open another ice cream shop in the disputed property, but that plan didn't happen. Residents say she became a civil servant. The shop had been rented several times before I moved in, but people always left quickly. Local residents told me, too late, that it had never been successful. The landlady lives in the house, owns holiday apartments, and had been self-employed herself. As a civil servant, she would have a guaranteed monthly income, unlike with this shop. She also had no commute and more time for her children. If she or the children were sick, being well insured would prevent financial hardship, which wasn't a problem for a civil servant. Her risk wasn't nearly as great as mine, which I was able to help with thanks to her tax advantages. For all these years, I voluntarily cleared snow, fallen leaves, and other debris, and watered her lawn and flower boxes during extreme heat. She bought goods from me at a much lower price and gladly accepted those advantages. Her mother often showed her appreciation with a bouquet of flowers. Now only the lawyer can help.

A lovely place to spend a holiday. The building is well looked after and the holiday apartments are fantastic. Highly recommended.

Really nice apartment, spotlessly clean, and just great all around. I'd happily stay here again. 👍👍
