Landhotel Arber Wellness

The food was good and fairly priced, though fruit was scarce and only replenished now and then. We stayed five nights in a beautiful location, but the hotel and rooms badly need renovation. Parking doesn’t cover all guests, and the owner’s table assignments were a mess. We could end up sitting somewhere different each meal. The staff were friendly and attentive, doing their best, but there were too few of them, and we kept seeing the same four people working. We asked for a spa treatment on the first day, but it was forgotten every day and never happened. The pool is run-down and poorly maintained, though they are trying to improve the grounds. Our room wasn’t cleaned. Towels and toilet paper were available if requested, but we then had to bring used towels back to reception.

The staff were so friendly, and we’d love to return. We spent a week here in August with the family and had three lovely, clean rooms with balconies and mountain views. The area is breathtaking. Dinner was a highlight: fresh, healthy food made with care, and much more than we could eat. Even Grandma thought it was excellent. After breakfast we went sightseeing, then came back for the sauna and a swim. The kids loved the pool, and the playroom had toys, games, and books, so we still had a cozy time at the hotel when it rained. One week just wasn’t enough. Thanks for everything!

I went by the hotel today, August 5th, 2023, after staying there many years ago. It’s permanently closed now. That doesn’t surprise me, since the dinner was already terrible back then, and even though I’d booked half-board, I chose to eat elsewhere. The pandemic probably finished the place off. It’s a shame because the setting was beautiful, and there was potential if they’d invested and the manager had been nicer.

The view of the Großer Arber and the idyllic setting are the only real positives. Cleanliness was neglected everywhere, including the buffet, rooms, reception, and pool, and the windows clearly weren’t cleaned. Check-in was chaotic: staff weren’t coordinated, guests got different information, and much of it was wrong. Complaints were mostly ignored. The hotel advertised COVID-19 precautions, but following them was impossible. It seemed overbooked, with poorly scheduled meal times and long lines for breakfast and dinner. Room service didn’t exist. Other guests told us they’d paid very different prices for the same stay, with a difference of over €250 for a week. At dinner, staff struggled to keep up with food and drinks, and waits sometimes reached 45 minutes. Drink prices changed from one night to the next. The food was generally okay, but you had to chase down plates and forks, and soup refills only came if requested. Two servers did try their best, but they were overwhelmed by the chaos. You have to experience it to believe it.
