The way we were treated was one of my worst service experiences. We came for lunch while visiting a friend in the nearby hospital. Before eating, we wanted a cigarette, but had no change, so we asked someone we assumed was the manager to break a €10 note. He said he couldn't, then pointed us toward a petrol station for cigarettes. When I asked how a restaurant could have no change, he simply sent us away. I don't know if it was because we were wearing tracksuits, or because we smoke. We were angry and hungry, and left feeling completely unwelcome. I've managed several high street restaurants in London and Edinburgh, and to me this was very poor management and customer service. We went instead to Küpers, about 10 minutes from Quellenhof, where we were welcomed and had excellent food and service. We won't come back here, and we'll be telling people about this experience. Whatever the manager's reason was, it doesn't excuse making paying customers feel so unwelcome.

If you're staying here in winter, make sure to request a room with a heater.

The big room and hearty food made for a relaxing stay, with local beer and a really warm, traditional German welcome. It felt nothing like being at a chain hotel. We could just settle in and enjoy it.

There’s a little bar for drinks, and the setting feels very German and cozy. The food was really nice too, and service was good.

The breakfast and dinner were filling and fairly priced. Our room was clean and comfortable, and above all, quiet. Staff were friendly, patient, and pleasant.
