B&B HOTEL Lübeck Berliner-Platz

Breakfast was tasty and plentiful, with a good range of choices, including vegan options. Our room on the renovated second floor was clean and had a blackout blind, though it was fairly small. The toilet paper was very thin, but otherwise the room was standard and perfectly fine. The hotel is still being renovated, and the receptionist told us that at check-in and asked us to bear with it. We also got complimentary bottled water. There isn't an elevator, and the receptionist couldn't say whether one would be installed. Plastic sheeting and building materials made the way to our room awkward.

At 8:30 on Sunday morning, then again at 9:30 and 11:20, someone opened our door without knocking or asking. The cleaning staff were trying to come in, even though we'd asked to sleep in instead of having breakfast. The receptionist had been very friendly, but apparently our request wasn't passed on or written down. The place itself feels like an old 80s bunker beside a busy road and roundabout. The rooms all seemed equally poor: small, dated and unpleasant, with old plastic bathrooms. A dreadful stay, and outrageously expensive for what it is.

The breakfast was good, though nothing special. The staff were very friendly, and the place was definitely clean. But the rooms are dark. On the ground floor, you seem to have to choose between letting in light while people outside, such as in the parking lot, can see in, or keeping your privacy and sitting in the dark. At a reasonable price it's okay. Rates vary a lot, though, and when you pay more, the value doesn't compare well with other hotels.

The room was barely furnished, with no closet and only a small shelf. The shower was broken, the toilet was dirty, and the bed felt like a piece of particle board with a cover on it. Even the entrance gave us a bad feeling. The coffee machine there was broken and the drinks machine was empty. That was no good at all. Sorry, B&B, but I'm used to something different from you.
