Schlei Idyll

We liked how quiet the location was, but the apartment felt neglected. We booked Lee on the ground floor, and the musty, moldy smell hit us as soon as we walked in. Even the disinfectant in the hall had expired two years earlier. The armchairs were worn and partly dirty, and some of the floor was sticky. I expected at least a kitchenette or pantry, but there was only a shared kitchen, and it was so dirty we chose not to use it. In the room there was a coffee maker, kettle, small glass-door fridge, some cutlery, and glasses. It clearly hadn’t been cleaned in a while. After the stay, we had to wash all our clothes and even the suitcase because of the lingering odors. Fly screens on the windows would be a nice extra :-) All in all, everything seemed neglected.

Everything else was okay, which makes this such a shame. We’d enjoyed a stay here about two and a half years ago, so we booked again, this time in room Lee on the ground floor. The musty smell was nearly unbearable, even with the window open and a scented candle. We were lucky to sleep with masks on. The clothes in the closet smelled so bad that I had to wash everything once we got home. At least we only stayed two nights.

The surroundings are lovely and quiet, perfect for walks or bike rides, and the apartment itself was relatively clean and well maintained. But don’t be misled by the pictures: there’s no private kitchen, just a shared one with another apartment, and some dishes and household items were dirty, so we had to clean them before use. On arrival, I tried the TV and it didn’t work. I called the listed contact, who said she’d come by the next morning or bring someone, but nobody came. I called and texted all day without a reply, and spent a second evening without a TV, despite being told I could call anytime. I was later told, around 11 p.m., that she’d had to go to the hospital for an emergency that day. A replacement was promised for the third day to sort things out. By the third day, everything really was fixed, but no one from the rental company has shown up since. I still haven’t even been able to see the sauna, since the basement door is always locked. What a shame. When I first contacted them during the journey, I’d only wanted to let them know we’d be late. I’m curious how it all plays out, but if that’s what you’re after...

It’s pleasantly quiet here, and the bathrooms have been renovated. The ground-floor furniture, though, badly needs replacing. It’s musty and looks like it’s from the 1960s. Dear host, Ikea could sort that out easily. If you don’t mind cleanliness or room odors too much, you could stay for a few days, and Febreze masks almost everything. The bathrooms weren’t cleaned properly, which is unacceptable, with dust and dirty windows. They even had winter duvets in summer 🥵🥵🥵. Congratulations! 👍 Until the furniture is replaced, I wouldn’t book again. I can’t give a very good review, and Room Lee isn’t recommended.
