Mercure Hotel Plaza Magdeburg

We enjoyed our four days in Magdeburg. Taqi in the biergarten is very personable, and the manager promptly sorted out a problem with our room. The tram into town is just 100 metres away. We'll be back.

The reception staff were polite and helpful. It was easy to ask for extra pillows or anything else we needed, and they sorted it out without any problem. At checkout, the lovely staff even offered us free coffee. I'd highly recommend it for a short stay.

I've stayed at this hotel for eight years, and things keep getting better. This year felt just as comfortable and caring as the previous ones. The bar and restaurant have reopened, and the bar manager is doing an excellent job. He was really engaging when I ate there. I'll come again!

The receptionist was the one bright spot. She seemed to notice how shocked we were when we arrived. We’d booked late at night while driving through Germany, assuming a 4-star Mercure would be a safe choice. It wasn’t. The rooms felt like they were from the 1960s, with broken windows and dirty, holey carpets. There was no air-conditioning or even a fan. I really wish I’d checked the photos first. This was the worst place we’ve ever stayed.
