Atrium Hotel Mainz

We were a large family staying in the apartment hotel section rather than the main building. The service was friendly and they showed us several rooms when we asked to switch, but cleanliness was a real problem. The place seemed not to have been vacuumed in a while, and some of the first rooms smelled strongly of mold or cigarettes. We found ten or more large spiders and webs in the corners. When we asked for cleaning, a worker came with a towel; we asked again the next day, but some webs were still there when we returned. The apartments have small kitchens, and we were asked to pay extra to use them, though nobody had told us about that at check-in.

It’s spacious and seems suited to business conferences, but I wouldn’t choose it for relaxing. The sauna only comes on at 5 p.m., and they wouldn’t switch it on in the morning. I had afternoon meetings, so I couldn’t use it; the pool was cold as well. Breakfast had very few choices, and the dinner menu offered only three dishes. I generally wouldn’t recommend the hotel.

I worked there for years, so I’ve got a personal connection to the place. It was called a home away from home by political leaders like Frau Merkel, business leaders, top football teams, inventors, well-known players, and musicians like London Beat. I even have a photo with London Beat and many other elites in the Hotel Lounge 🏨. It’s in a nice spot, the food is great, and there’s a continental breakfast. A wonderful experience, honestly. I recommend it.

The apartments were great value for a longer stay, with all the amenities I needed and free bicycles. I especially liked the balcony and quiet setting. I only ate lunch at the hotel once, and it was very expensive and disappointing, with wilted salad and stale bread. Even so, I’m looking forward to coming back.
