Welcome Hotel Meschede/Hennesee

The lake view is magnificent, and walking around the lake is amazing, though the route is very steep with lots and lots of steps, so it won’t suit anyone with walking difficulties. The hotel itself is peaceful, clean, and comfortable, with quiet rooms. It has a lovely 1950s dance hall feel, a bit like Sound of music, or the big girls don't cry part at the start of Dirty dancing. The food is good, the young staff are cool, and the guy at reception was especially helpful and kind. It’s also well placed for Fortfun and the Ramsbeck mine. I love this place and will be back soon. The breakfast was excellent, with lots of choices, and the natural setting around Welcome Hotel Meschede is beautiful. We’d booked a deluxe lake view room, which was spacious and generally clean, although there was dust under the beds, a worry with young children who like to explore. The room was pleasant overall, but warm in the evenings when the setting sun shone directly in. There was no air conditioning or fan. For a 4-star hotel, the amenities also fell short: just soap, no shampoo or lotion, no electric kettle, and an entirely empty minibar. Drinks were available in the corridor, but that wasn’t convenient for a premium room. Slippers weren’t there at first, though reception supplied them when we asked and said they aren’t included automatically for hygiene reasons. We’d expected them to be provided upfront. Dinner was poor and overpriced at 30 euros per person, so we cancelled it for the second night. The hotel still charged 60 euros, saying the fixed option we had chosen wasn’t refundable. They waived parking at 10 euros per day as compensation, leaving a 40 euro difference. The location and breakfast were highlights, but the missing air conditioning, limited amenities, and billing issue left us disappointed. The hotel has potential, but needs improvements to meet 4-star standards.

The restaurant team were especially kind and flexible, Alice in particular. They were very welcoming to dogs too. We recommend the hotel for families, cyclists, and people traveling with dogs.

The lake is nearby, and the location is beautiful. The hotel is lovely too, with really nice, comfortable rooms. Dinner at the restaurant was pretty bad, so I’d suggest eating somewhere else.
