We came back in September 2023 and stayed three nights. The Lyoner sausage, salad, and fries were all excellent and reasonably priced, and the service was outstanding. On an earlier visit, I had a wonderful lunch at Saarblick with my daughter. The food was perfect, and the service was excellent.

The room was very basic for 135 Euro a night: no fridge, coffee or tea, or air conditioning. It was also noisy, and a truck outside woke us very early. Parking was difficult, and we had to drive around the village and call the owner for an hour before finding a spot. We later learned there was paid parking around the hotel, but nobody had told us. We’d booked after a lot of research because the hotel had a restaurant, and we expected to arrive after a long day of driving and hiking. Instead, we got an email saying there would be no personal check-in and that we should collect the key from a box. If we wanted that kind of service, we would have booked an Airbnb. When we tried to reserve a restaurant table, we were told it would be closed because of a holiday earlier that week. They hadn’t warned us before we booked. The restaurant was one of the main reasons we chose the hotel. A very disappointing stay.

The room was clean and OK, with a good mattress and bed. Staff were friendly and very helpful, and breakfast was excellent. The restaurant served very good German food with excellent service, plus a good selection of Italian dishes and pizza. Outlet stores are next door.

Mettlach is a lovely, quiet little town on the Saar, and I love staying here. The hotel is quaint and old-fashioned in a nice way, with comfortable beds and a fresh buffet breakfast that had plenty of choice. It’s good value for money, and close to Villeroy and Boch for porcelain shopping, which is an experience in itself.
