Landidyll Baumwiese

We got a discounted rate of 34 euros on the last day, and were sorry we had plans that meant we couldn’t stay another night. The hotel is near a forest, with clean air and free parking. Our room was clean and cosy, with a minibar fridge, TV, and large double bed, and had a high-tech look. We also loved the lobby’s design, especially the growing tree in the middle of the hall and the unusually shaped transparent ceiling. There’s a nice fountain by the back entrance, too. We stayed as a couple for one night and liked everything, especially the free sauna for hotel guests. It was the best sauna we’ve seen in a hotel, which is rare for us.

The food was overcooked and barely seasoned, and even the lights had to be switched on after we asked, though it was still too dark. My sister’s wedding was held there, and I came away very, very disappointed. The staff were friendly, but they should have been serving us instead of waiting for us to come ask for things. For around 30 people, even water came only by request, one bottle at a time. I had to ask a waiter for every bottle. I also ordered the same drink three times before I finally got it. There was another party in the next room, but that doesn’t explain it: there were often up to three waiters behind the bar who seemed to have nothing to do while we waited for water and other drinks. At the end, service suddenly got very fast. While we were still saying goodbye, staff cleared the tables and chairs, changed the tablecloths, and reset everything. I felt like they were throwing us out. That’s completely unacceptable, whether it’s a wedding or a birthday. Fine for dinner for two, but I absolutely wouldn’t recommend it for a large group.

Guests seemed to be getting a set menu that wasn’t on the usual menu. It turned out to be a 12-course voucher menu for two at €44, with some dishes that weren’t available individually from the regular menu. It’s fair to wonder whether 12 courses make sense, but why would people return if the standard menu without a voucher doesn’t offer a completely different level of quality? For me, the trip is no longer worthwhile. Baumwiese used to be known for Swabian cooking alongside other tasty dishes, including some unusual, delicious creations. Now it’s all Swabian food plus a build-your-own-steak setup, with 5 steaks, 5 sauces, and 10 sides to mix as you like, like an American diner. Nothing on the menu stands out, and the quality is about what you’d expect from simple home cooking.

The Maultaschen were the most delicious I’ve ever had! The hotel and service were great, the rooms were spacious and lovely, and the beds were an absolute dream. I slept so well.
