Luxus Hostel Rabe Mühlhausen

For the price, the room felt very bare, with harsh lighting and no proper reading lamp. Getting in was a struggle too: the PIN was wrong, the safe wouldn't open, and someone had to come over from another hotel. I don't understand the glowing reviews on booking sites. Sadly, that was my first and last stay.

The room had a fridge, and the toilet was separate from the shower and washroom. Customer service was really friendly and helpful with the PIN, and parking nearby made arrival easy. A kettle would have been the one thing missing.

The main problem was the bedding. I said when booking that I'm allergic to feathers and needed a feather-free duvet and pillow. They replied quickly that it would be fine, but the bed had feather bedding after all. Nobody answered the phone number in the room, so getting a decent night's sleep was out of the question. I also found trash under the bed while looking for the TV remote. There are only four rooms in this “hostel,” on the third floor of a mixed-use building. You collect a key from a box outside, with no reception, and the lift wasn't working despite a note recommending it. The room is large but sparsely furnished. The TV is big, but the remote was missing and it was stuck in loud welcome mode. It took a while to find the joystick behind it. The TV also isn't HD, so the first few channels, including ARD, only showed a static information screen since they and other channels had switched off SD programming.

Great rooms in a really nice, modern motel.
