Hotel-Restaurant Bergmühle

The location is wonderful if you want peace and quiet, and the town center, with at least two restaurants, is only a short walk away. Parking is right in front, and Bayreuth is about a 15-minute drive. We found the hotel and breakfast prices in line with current rates during inflation. It seems ideal for a romantic stay as a couple or on your own. We contacted the hotel shortly before reaching Bavaria to arrange three nights at the end of September, and were told they would hold a double room for us. The welcome was pleasant, with the details explained in a friendly way. Inside, the place is exceptionally stylish, and even the smallest details have been carefully considered.

We paid €236 for two days with breakfast, and couldn't use the hotel's outdoor areas. The hotel promotes its location as a major feature, but it didn't feel like something we could really enjoy. Staying there felt like sleeping in a museum, where you can look but not take pleasure in it. The welcome was cold, and our room had very thin walls. Our double room's tiny window looked out over the mill and its wheel; there was also a window facing the stairwell and a glass door, both only partly covered by curtains. The bathroom was very small. The bed was okay, but the weak soundproofing and all that interior glass made it hard to fall asleep. The shower gel and shampoo came in tiny plastic sachets, just two each day, smaller than snack bar mustard packets. Breakfast in the main building was lovely, with a wonderful view. Still, it ended exactly at ten, and guests were expected to leave on the dot. When we asked for more coffee or tea 15 minutes before closing, we were reminded that they shut punctually.

A car is recommended for this quiet rural spot, though Kulmbach and Bayreuth aren't far away. Free parking is right at the hotel. It's a small, charming place with comfortable rooms and stylish vintage furniture. Reception was very friendly and helpful. Dinner needs to be ordered ahead; otherwise, it's more of a bed and breakfast. If you're after peace and quiet, this is a great fit, and I'd highly recommend it.

We came for two nights, my 84-year-old mother, my sister, and me, and each of us had a room in the part where the guest restaurant is. We were all amazed by how beautifully furnished the rooms were. We felt like princesses! :) The meadows looked magnificent, though the Red Main River runs right by the hotel and was a bit noisy in my room, so I had to keep the window shut at night. Even so, we really enjoyed this romantic little hotel. Breakfast was a highlight, with a fantastic room and a generous spread: fresh rolls, cold cuts and cheeses, fruit, orange juice, coffee, and eggs cooked to order. In summer, breakfast can also be eaten on the terrace when the weather is nice. The rural setting suited us perfectly, while Kulmbach and Bayreuth are only minutes away by car. The village has several restaurants, an ice cream parlor, and a bakery. You can eat at the hotel too if you let them know in advance. I don't understand complaints about not being able to eat there. Anyone who reads and checks ahead would know the hotel restaurant is only for guests and requires a reservation. If you want a romantic getaway, this is just the place. We'll definitely be back. :)
