Hotel Dampfmühle

Mahamad at reception was really professional and helpful. He made our stay very comfortable.

Breakfast was good, with a wide choice of fresh food, about what you’d expect from an average hotel these days. The staff were friendly and professional, and even though reception closes at 22:00, a very friendly voice on the phone talked you through getting in with the coded keybox. The price felt fair for what you get. The room was spacious and well equipped, and the bathroom was fine. The bad smell was the main problem. It seemed like they might have tried to mask the smell of a former smoking room with Old Spice. The furniture looked like it was from the nineties and was worn, and there were no switches by the bed, so you had to get up to turn off the lights.

The rooms and bathrooms were clean. Breakfast had no gluten-free options.

The room was left with Monday’s trash until Sunday, and over our six-night stay the sheets weren’t changed, despite the claim that they’re changed every three days. The towels weren’t replaced either. We paid for two people but got just one body towel, one hand towel and a shower mat. The dish soap was nearly empty. The rooms look much better in the photos. In person, everything seemed old and smelled bad. The woman at reception who “welcomed us” was extremely arrogant and spoke to us as if she were above us. When we asked for a bill, they didn’t know how to fill it out, and the English at reception was poor. They call themselves a four-star hotel, but I’d give it one and a half stars at most. They blamed not cleaning our room on coronavirus, while the staff weren’t even wearing masks.
