Pension Salzsäumer - Adults Only

Room 3 was a lovely surprise: it had a little hall, a shower room off to the side, a spacious lounge with its own balcony, and a large bedroom with a huge bed and plenty of storage. There’s also a shared room on that floor with fridges and cupboards for each room, plus plates and cutlery, so you can do some self catering. The optional buffet breakfast runs from 07:30 to 09:30, with a toaster, hot coffee machine, cereals, meats, cheeses, and more. We’d first visited about 14 years ago, when the place was a hotel serving food and breakfast. After a couple of changes of owner, it now operates as a B&B, just rooms with bed and breakfast, not a Pension or Gasthof. It’s adults only, with no children allowed. The couple who own and run it speak English and are warm and welcoming. The decor feels modern while keeping its roots, with beautiful furniture. I hadn’t thought of staying here, but our usual pension was fully booked for the second weekend. I’ll most certainly come back.

We were given great advice from our host about possible outings, and the location made hiking easy. My mother, daughter, and I stayed three nights at the lovingly furnished Pension Salzsäumer. We climbed Lusen and Rachel and walked to the animal enclosure without ever using the car :-) For dinner, we went about 100 meters to a delicious restaurant, and the breakfast left nothing to be desired. If you’re not up for long hikes, the hedgehog bus can take you to lovely places too. It’s peaceful and relaxing, with a breathtaking view. We’d love to return, and thank our extremely friendly hosts, the two who never take the bus :-).

The only real drawback for me was the cash-only payment. For several nights, that’s quite a lot of money to carry around… Otherwise, this was a lovely place to stay. Rooms were very clean and seemed recently renovated, with a comfortable firm mattress and a nice balcony view. Breakfast was delicious and more than enough. Each room gets its own fridge and storage in the common area, along with its own dishes and glasses, and there’s a small fridge stocked with drinks. It’s well placed for hikes to Lusen, Rachel, and the wildlife park, and the bus connections are quite good.
