My partner and I came from the UK for a week and had a great stay at the Mercure Hotel in Düsseldorf-Neuss. We paid about £320/€360for 7 nights, which felt like very good value. The room was basic but spacious, well maintained, and had good amenities. The staff were really friendly and all spoke English, which helped since my German is only basic. It’s outside the city, but Norf station is roughly a 10-minute walk away, with good S11 connections to Dusseldorf and Cologne. A pleasant stay, and I’d recommend it to anyone visiting west Germany on a budget. Prost!

The staff were professional and helpful, and the breakfast was absolutely perfect. The restaurant menu is small, but the dishes are tasty and generous. The property is well maintained and nice, if a little old, and the location is ideal if you have a car. Book without stress or worries. P,S Some towels need replacing.

We waited exactly 1.5 hours for a simple salad, with no apology or explanation. The restaurant service was completely unacceptable: the waiter acted like doing his basic job was a special favor and even yelled at customers. It was unprofessional and disrespectful. If you care about your time and expect basic service, avoid this place at all costs. The worst restaurant experience I’ve ever had.

Someone tried to get into our room at 8:00 in the morning, and we had to shout to make them go away. Then housekeeping showed up between 9:00 and 10:00 and had to be turned away twice. After just one night, we left with a terrible impression. The room was filthy, with food scraps on the floor and mucus smeared on the wall beside the bed. Completely unacceptable.

The staff were friendly and the room was clean, and we had a great stay while visiting the Christmas Market in dusseldorf. Breakfast was excellent too. The only downside was that the restaurant closed too early.
