Neuss-Nord

The breakfast was okay for 6 euro, with coffee, an egg, juice if requested, ham, cheese, and salami. The baked buns were underdone, though. When we were leaving, the owner said everything had been paid, but we understood that breakfast still cost extra. She didn’t seem to know the business very well, and we could have walked out without paying the 12 euro. We insisted on paying what we owed. I don’t think I’d stay again. We’d called ahead to ask about arriving at 12 o’clock and were told that was fine. At 12.15, the owner greeted us in her house coat and pajamas, surprised to see us because she thought we meant midnight. We got a room with two beds that smelled moldy, then lay down for a nap. The phone rang asking where we were and when we’d arrive, and her son came to say we had to move rooms. We moved to the third door. That room smelled of mold too, and the pillow smelled like old sweat. The bathroom was extremely small, old, and dirty. There were too many cables and very few plugs. There were no smoke detectors or marked escape routes. In the morning, the bathroom was cold and there was no hot water. I left it running for a while, but it only got barely warm.

I left ahead of schedule because the heating didn’t work and the room was so dirty. It smelled of alcohol and garbage. I can’t imagine it being any worse.

The service staff were very friendly, and the price was very low, but I wouldn’t recommend staying here. I was in town for a trade fair for three nights. My bed creaked whenever I moved, with a completely sagging mattress, and the floor on the 2nd floor squeaked too. The room smelled of smoke despite being non-smoking. The first night the window was stuck open, so I heard planes all night and barely slept. A thin door let me hear another guest snoring. The shower alternated between very hot and very cold, with only about 2 seconds of lukewarm water in between. I kept turning the tap off and on just to get a brief bit of warm water.

We chose not to sleep there, and I’m not paying for it. The place was filthy everywhere and smelled awful. The furniture looked like it had come straight from a dump. Everything was greasy, especially the kitchen, dishes, and microwave. The refrigerator was dirty, stank, and was switched off. There was some old crumpled sweater, or whatever, in the closet. The bathroom was beyond words. I’ve never seen anything like it.
