Campingplatz Hetzingen

My little tent spot was lovely, right on the bank of the river Rur, where I saw a beaver, kingfishers, and a dipper. The people were helpful, the toilets and showers clean, and the campsite had everything needed for a comfortable stay, including a restaurant. The downside is the railway running through the middle of the site. Trains pass every half hour from 6:00 to 22:00 and hoot four times each time. It disturbed my sleep a lot. Without that, this excellent campsite would get five stars.

We arrived by bike and set up our tents beneath the apple trees. The pitches felt cosy, though they were a bit far from the toilets. Staff were really friendly, and the owner speaks Dutch. The toilets and showers were clean, with shower coins available to buy at reception.

You can enjoy the riverside and the nearby restaurant, and there's a dishwasher in the kitchen, which is a big help when you've got lots of dishes. Our tents were under apple trees with a view of Nideggen Castle. Bikes are available for getting to the bathroom, though it's only a few minutes on foot. The staff were great, the view was lovely, and the site is open all year. Eifel National Park is a nearby attraction. I'll definitely visit again :)

We had three retrievers with us, and the staff were friendly to dogs. There's a path on the site where they can be walked and do their business. Kids have a playground, and the on-site restaurant is good and welcomes dogs too. A super campsite on the river Rur, can recommend it.
