The outside looks great, but inside it was awful. For €1000 a week in the off-season, I wasn’t expecting luxury, just basic things like cleanliness, decent beds, and furniture that wasn’t falling apart. Instead, the place was truly disgusting. The photos didn’t match what we found. I can’t confirm the smell other guests mentioned, it’s simply an old building. The mattresses were like torture devices. When I complained, I was told, “That's not our responsibility, and we don't know anything about it.” We left a day early because sleeping there caused so much pain. No joke, I need to see a doctor. There was no wardrobe or anywhere to hang clothes, so I spent a week in wrinkled things. In the bathroom, wall brackets were broken or incomplete, with dirt falling into the tub. Dirt and mold were coming off the walls. The listed status shouldn’t prevent repairs, since a modern Velux window could be installed. The window was so dirty that opening it made grime fall into the bathroom. There was no light by the front door, so you couldn’t tell whether that terrifying spider was waiting or someone was lurking in the corner. The kitchen furniture was worn out and broken, too.

The location is the one good thing here. From the outside, the place looks quite nice, but the interior is old and badly needs renovating. We read plenty of reviews beforehand and were still unpleasantly surprised. The furniture looks thrown together, and a lot of it needs replacing. Cleanliness was completely unacceptable. There were cobwebs everywhere, even though guests had arrived on the day we left and the place had supposedly been cleaned. There was plaster (?!) on the hallway and living room floors. The walls were damp, with peeling wallpaper in places, and the windows were rusty. The bathroom window and front door let in drafts. The warped bathroom door wouldn’t close properly, and two-thirds of the window was opaque and filthy. Some of the grout was moldy. The shower enclosure wasn’t installed properly, so water ran down the wall, and the toilet flush had no stop function. That’s unacceptable by today’s standards. The living room cabinet and kitchen chest of drawers couldn’t be used because they smelled musty and moldy. One chair was completely worn out; the couch was stained and musty. Both vacuum cleaners made the smell worse after use. The garden chair cushions looked mildewed and were stained. There were stains on the walls, curtains, and bedding, along with haphazard installations for the TV connection and living room lamp.

The old listed house has a special rustic charm, and the small enclosed garden makes the smaller apartment feel especially idyllic. We stayed in that apartment with two people and a dog; it had decent furnishings and the essentials. It’s right on the dike, a lovely spot for nature, quiet, and a rustic setting. The bike path to Greetsiel passes by, but otherwise it’s mostly peaceful, unlike Norddeich, which is only 3 km away. Some maintenance has been put off, though, and a few repairs shouldn’t wait any longer.

It’s a lovely location in a listed building, but the condition of the place, especially the small apartment, takes some getting used to. Renovation, furnishings, the garden, cleanliness, and general upkeep all need attention.

Cozy, clean, and thoughtfully furnished, with everything you need. The atmosphere is lovely, and I’d definitely recommend it.
