Haus Thönnes

On my first trip to Norderney, I found the apartment spotless and nicely furnished. The landlord was very friendly and helpful, and both check-in and the later check-out were easy. It's peaceful and great for relaxing, with the island forest just behind the apartment. The town center is about 10 minutes away by bike, and the beach is a little farther along. Across the street you'll find an island shop, a bike shop, a bakery, and a very good restaurant, all of which I'd recommend. The location is fantastic and the price felt right for what you get. I felt very comfortable and would definitely come back.

It's completely quiet at night, and the landlord was very friendly. The bus from the harbor stops practically outside. The location suited me perfectly, near the quieter last stretch of beach, with Edeka, a bike rental, and a bakery close by.

The terrace is lovely and spacious, but the old parasol base doesn't fit the parasol, which wobbles and spins around. That's irritating in the sometimes windy weather on Norderney. We like eating outside, since inside the only option is sitting on the sofa, which I don't enjoy. At €130 a night, the bathroom is the only part that meets my expectations. You can put up with the rest, but not at that price. In Apartment 1, where we stayed, the stairs are narrow and steep, and the hardware-store handrail only covers the middle section. That's just how the stairs are, but my wife has knee problems and struggled considerably. The bedroom is worse: the bed can only be reached from one side, and although it's described as a box-spring bed, it's just mattresses stacked together. It's too soft, they keep sliding around, and the dip in the middle is really unappealing. The kitchenette is under the sloping roof and only practical for people under 1.60 m (5'3"). I was glad to see a knife block when we arrived, since that's unusual in a holiday rental, but every knife was so blunt it was useless. They're all shaped like steak knives, too, which makes them poor for cutting or even spreading butter on bread and rolls. The price-performance ratio is completely off.

I felt very comfortable, and everything was fine for me despite the coronavirus situation.
