The breakfast was a real bright spot, with lots to choose from and the option to make an omelette. The sauna and steam bath looked cosy and well kept, though we didn’t try them. Housekeeping were kind and quick to respond, and even brought my daughter sweets. There’s also a lovely park nearby for a morning walk. The room, though, was the opposite of restful. We’d booked a view of the inner courtyard but got a roadside room with traffic going by all night, so we couldn’t keep the window open. It smelled musty when we arrived, as if it hadn’t been used in ages, and we had to air it out for hours. The room was cramped and awkwardly arranged, and my husband kept hitting his leg on the bed corner. I paid an extra €22.50 for a small bed for my daughter, but slept in it myself the second night because the main mattress felt decades old and was so uncomfortable. The pillows were lumpy and too large, and there was only one. Asking reception for another pillow went nowhere at first. I was told there weren’t any, then another colleague wondered if they might have smaller ones. The whole exchange felt defensive and unhelpful. I was also told newer rooms exist, but since I’d booked an “old” room, I had to stay there. That woman had no empathy and shouldn’t be facing customers. Management should keep her in the back. The housekeepers showed more skill and common sense. The air conditioning didn’t work and we couldn’t adjust the temperature. Even with the radiator off, it was too hot. The fridge was broken, and depending on who we asked, either an electrical problem was being fixed or none of the fridges worked. No consistent answer and no apology. The bathroom was tiny, barely enough room to move. The shower pressure was strong, but the shower head didn’t suit it. At checkout I explained the problems and hoped for some small compensation. The receptionist said she’d told the manager and he would email me. I said we were leaving and that was too little, too late, but she wouldn’t budge and blamed Booking.com for being unable to offer anything. That’s nonsense. The staff at breakfast seemed stressed too. When my daughter spilled a few drops of juice, the woman in charge rushed over in a panic and looked at us as if we’d ruined her day. Come on, it was only a few drops. We stayed two nights at Hotel Am Stadtring, and I wouldn’t recommend it if you expect four-star quality. Apart from the spa facilities and breakfast, it doesn’t meet that standard. Tired rooms, uncomfortable beds, inconsistent communication and an unhelpful front desk made the stay frustrating. Avoid it if a good night’s sleep matters to you. Visit the restaurant when you’re in Nordhorn, but don’t expect the same standard from staying here. It isn’t.

I’ve stayed here twice and really enjoyed it. The rooms are roomy enough and very clean, and the staff are mostly young, but always smiley. Some rooms have a balcony where you can enjoy a German Beer while looking out at the street. Hope you enjoy it too.

The sauna was a great way to unwind after a long day, and I’d definitely recommend it. We were here for a business trip and were mostly pleased with the hotel and service. Everything was clean and spacious, although the bathrooms could use updating.

We found this local hotel in a beautiful town, and the staff were so kind to guests. The facilities are a little old, but everything felt comfortable. There’s a big market very close by, maybe about 200m away?
