Hotel Hauser

The location is excellent, and the room was tidy, though very small. We also had a wonderful, friendly lady at reception in the evening who recommended a café and amazing ice cream. Thank you! Even so, the rules made us feel unwelcome. The hotel says pets are allowed, but apparently dogs are fine and cats aren't. We asked to check out an hour later and were quoted €20, which I've never seen anywhere. Pets cost €15 a day, parking is €17 a day, and there's no elevator.

We especially liked the little reception and the lively restaurant downstairs, which gave this small hotel so much character. Our room was clean and cozy, and the setting in the historic heart of the Old Town was just right. There are only 21 rooms, and the location feels central and full of atmosphere. Parking worked out easily too: the hotel has an arrangement with a nearby garage for €17 a day, about a pleasant 10-minute walk away. We’d happily stay again.

A really nice hotel, with a comfortable bed and kind staff. They even left a welcome sign and some gummies on the bed, which was a sweet touch. Drinks were available to buy from the stocked mini fridge. It’s also very conveniently placed, close to the trains and just a few minutes on foot from the city center. I’d definitely come back, 10/10.

The office ladies were very nice, and the location is genuinely good. But this was the worst hotel of my 20 nights in Germany, despite all the praise I can understand from people drawn to its historic character and location. I travel to Europe nearly every year, mostly in Germany, and have stayed in everything from simple traditional guest houses to 600-year-old buildings and castle hotels. The rooms felt dingy and poorly lit, and the mattresses were the worst I’ve ever encountered in Germany. They advertise air-conditioning, but what you get is a small portable unit with a 4-inch hose venting through an open window. In hot weather, the open window lets in more heat than the unit can handle. There’s no breakfast, and reaching the first rooms means climbing two flights of stairs. Both affiliated garages were the smallest I’ve seen. You can barely open a car door. There’s a garage 5-10 minutes east with decent-sized spaces, and it costs only €3 more, if you find it on Google Maps. I hope this helps fellow travelers know what to expect and perhaps avoid it. You’ve been warned.
