Gasthaus & Pension Zum Hirsch

A simple, down-to-earth Bed & Breakfast, with clean, spacious rooms. The management was attentive and helpful. The restaurant attached to it is worth a visit for its local food.

Guests are a burden.

We felt completely at home in the lovely, very tidy apartment, and the hosts were friendly and helpful, doing what they could for us. The area is peaceful and ideal for lovely walks. Across the street, the “Zum Hirsch” restaurant serves excellent food that feels like home cooking. We’d love to return. The “Gehlberger Bettchen” holiday apartments replied: “Thank you so much! We do everything we can to help our guests feel comfortable, and we’ll gladly pass your compliments on to the restaurant. See you soon!”

We first ate here on the opening evening of our five-day holiday in the Thuringian Forest, after the hotel where my girlfriend and I were staying in Gehlberg had lost its cook because of staff shortages. The food was delicious, the host was very friendly, and we had a drink at the bar afterward. We ate elsewhere on the other evenings, in places like Oberhof, Erfurt, and Suhl, but chose to book a table here again on our last night. It was the coziest place and the food tasted best. We were seated right away at the regulars’ table, and had an unforgettable evening with delicious food and good conversation with the host and locals. It felt like a warm welcome. If we’re in the area again, we’ll definitely come back! Greetings from Twente in the Netherlands.
