Hotel Grünwinkel

The sloped roof gave us a lovely view and a chance to enjoy some Black Forest air. Our attic room felt cozy, and it still had plenty of room in the bathroom, with both a shower and toilet.

The food was excellent, and we found plenty of quality and courtesy for the price. When we had to leave, we were sorry to go. Christina even came to say goodbye, though we hope it’s only goodbye for now. It’s an enchanting place with a dreamy, almost suspended atmosphere. CHRISTINA is a wonderful head of the family, and she manages the hotel and the people working with her beautifully. Well done! Silvia from Italy

We arrived in a convoy of open top cars in pouring rain, and Christina and her staff were there with umbrellas. They even dried and ironed our wet clothes overnight. The rooms had fantastic views over the surrounding countryside, and the five course dinner for 30 people came with seconds for the few who were still hungry. From arrival through to the staff waving us off the next morning, nothing seemed too much trouble. I've never been this impressed by a hotel. It's a pity the rating stops at five stars. If you're in this region of Germany, this hotel is a must visit.

Ali was a friendly employee who really tried to make everyone happy, but there weren't enough staff, and some of the others either didn't want to manage things or didn't know how. The daily room cleaning was a disaster. The rooms are older, which I didn't mind, and the beds were very comfortable, though the towels could use some fabric softener. I booked after reading the good reviews, but it seems ownership changed half a year ago. The breakfast buffet was perfectly adequate. Dinner tasted okay and came from other restaurants owned by the owner. The sauna is available if you tell them when you want to use it so they can heat it up. There seems to be a lot of potential here, but more staff would be needed. Even having hiking trail flyers for guests, or letting people order food in the restaurant as usual, would help. They always asked what time we'd come for breakfast, and dinner seemed to be delivered in the evening. We felt rushed while eating. There weren't many guests in the restaurant, and it stayed open only long enough for us to eat. Then everything closed and they called it a night. It wasn't very nice.
