The grounds looked neglected, and the ping-pong table was broken. In the room, the bunk beds were shaky with loose screws, and the mattress was too small for its bed. The carpet had stains, pieces of wallpaper had been chewed off, and there were boogers and other grime stuck to the wall. The owners or staff smelled of smoke, which I didn't enjoy. The bathroom was a mess too. There was no shower curtain in the wet room, so the high-mounted shower head left everything soaked. Brown water came out of the sink tap at first, so we had to let it run for a while. This was a school trip, and honestly, that's enough for me. Never again. It has nothing to do with nostalgia for East Germany. What a shame.

Dear Nadine, It's been a year and 18 days since our class trip, and I wish I could go back to November 4, 2024 and experience it again, including seeing you. Unfortunately, that's not possible right now. I know I've barely been in touch lately because school has kept me really busy, but I wanted to write again and say thank you. Thank you for knowing us, for that wonderful trip, and for making us feel so welcome at your hotel.

We were happy with our stay. The quiet spot in the heart of the Harz Mountains was just what we wanted. Our room could have been cleaner, though, and the Wi-Fi didn't work there.

The food was a highlight for our class, with tasty, varied meals and no trouble accommodating lactose-free or vegetarian requests. The staff were friendly, helpful, and open to suggestions, so we felt looked after right away. The excursions were all organized for the classes, which made planning easy. The holiday camp was a really good school trip destination. The building is older, with a fairly basic but functional and clean style that still feels a bit like the GDR era. It's not a luxury hotel, but the organization, food, and supervision were excellent.

The location is pretty nice, and this is a unique place to stay with starry-eyed Nadine. It badly needs maintenance, and cleanliness isn't great, but it's very nostalgic and I keep coming back. If you don't take things too seriously or expect too much, you'll be fine here.
