Gasthof Kessler

The owner and her mother made us feel looked after, and the staff were very nice. Our room was spotless, with cozy interiors, free Wi-Fi, and a good-sized balcony. We’d definitely come back.

We only stayed briefly, arriving late and heading off early after breakfast, but we’d happily return. Another hotel sent us here because it was fully booked, and we weren’t disappointed. The area is beautiful and peaceful, while the location is right next to the highway. Our room for two was comfortable and had a balcony, TV, Wi-Fi, and phone. Breakfast was great, the staff were friendly, and it was affordable and good value.

The location worked well for us, with public transport right in front of Gasthof Kessler and plenty of free parking both outside and underground. The double glazing kept road noise out, and the elevator serves every floor, including the underground parking. If we make it back to Europe from Australia, we know where to stay near Hammelburg. We arrived after driving from Venice and booked two nights before continuing our trip. At reception, I couldn’t switch back to German after 33 years away and not speaking it, but the woman at the desk was helpful and spoke English. We had room 62 on the third floor. It looked freshly painted, and the king-size beds were excellent, I slept like a baby. There was a TV, phone, great Wi-Fi included, and a good-sized balcony with a beautiful view. The bathroom looked new and was very clean, with a higher than usual toilet bowl that suited my wife, who has trouble walking or standing up. The shower had no raised step and included a rain shower head, vanity, and heated towel rails. Breakfast was included in the €90 per night room price for two, and it was fantastic, with a wide range of choices rather than a cheap, basic spread. Dinner was tasty and more than enough. Mr Kessler is “Der Kuchmeister” and can really cook. Dinner for two cost between €30 and €50. We had a great stay with the Kessler family. Service, room 62, breakfast and dinner quality all get five stars.

We spent a very enjoyable week at this Gasthof in the Rhön, and the food was delicious. The owner arranged daily side trips as part of our hotel package. After breakfast, our hiking group went on walks to lots of interesting places. They even organized bus transport from our town near Frankfurt to the hotel and back. 🙂
